This makes sense to me for two reasons: many chefs say that there's a diminishing returns on enjoying the flavor of dessert after about 3 bites, AND..with this approach, you can enjoy multiple tiny desserts!
Thank you so much for that tidbit about 3 bites! I didn’t have that in my frame of reference and now I do. Good to know, and it sounds like you’re a fan of this idea and appreciate your enthusiasm!
At Buvette du Marais at Larkspur Landing in Marin! We should go together sometime and share one over a few hours. I thought it was way too big to have as a solo breakfast, but maybe with some help it makes sense. Great gimmick to get people in the door though, but I mainly observed people getting the more normal-sized pastries.
I have been thinking about this as well. At work we have a culinary team that puts out small, bite sized snacks and desserts through the day- and they make me wonder why I can’t get this size at a bakery vs a huge piece of cake. I guess the likely reasons is the economics of running a bakery.
I definitely think it's economics! It makes sense .. for them. But not for me.
Of course there are many, many bakeries where we can get little bites but I don't think it's as common as "the big cookie" or "the big ..." you name it!
This simple at first glance matter is actually a lot more complicated. I always feel like it's wastefull to fire up my oven for a small dessert and baking it with food spoils the taste. That's where microwavable mug cakes are a life saver! There is a great easy recipe for a chocolate mug cake I've been making for years and it never fails to impress everyone who tries my cake.
When I was younger I could eat the bigger desserts or multiple rounds of sweets. But now I just don’t crave as big of servings, so I appreciate petite desserts as well!

Those mug cakes are the OG single-serving favorites! Thanks for the reminder that those are a tasty option.

You too! I may be on to something :-)
