A road trip, family, and sunshine in the Pacific Northwest followed.
Spring Break was last week for my kids. We didn’t really have a plan for the week but decided last minute—based on a weather forecast of 4 days in a row of sunshine along with a desire to check in on the grandmas—to take a road trip north to Seattle.
It’s not a short trip to drive from San Francisco to Seattle, but we’ve done it a few times now and know the routine. Plus we were able to easily take Maven! It’s hard leaving behind our goldendoodle when we travel and try to take her whenever we can do it.
The kids and I decided to take a visit to the University of Washington campus with my Mom, and while the earlier-blooming Yoshino cherries that get a lot of the attention in the “Quad” part of the campus were spent, the Kwanzan cherries that line the corridor from Red Square to Drumheller fountain were at peak bloom.

If you haven’t seen the movie Being There, it’s an old comedy/drama with Peter Sellers and Shirley MacLaine from 1979 that is a commentary on life that my Dad loved.
