A Rosehip Studio subscription is less than half the price of a milky boba tea per month! I’m a designer and artist living in a city so full of natural inspiration and people from all over the world, and I’m working hard to deliver . I would love it if you consider subscribing:
A couple of weeks ago, I took my son and his friend for a game of mini golf at Stagecoach Greens. After we finished our putt-putt and decided to head back, I decided to check out the recently opened Bayfront Park. It’s a new 5.5-acre waterfront park in Mission Bay that celebrates the area's maritime history with some very innovative material reuse. Even on a weekday, the park was bustling with tourists taking photos, and the rolling green hills immediately captivated the two preteens I was with, who laid down to soak in some rays after our long walk.
As the largest recipient of the Oakland Museum of California's Bay Bridge Steel Program, Bayfront Park incorporates steel elements from the now-demolished eastern span of the historic Bay Bridge throughout its design. These repurposed steel beams serve as sculptural features, informal seating along the waterfront, and part of a cantilevered observation deck that extends over the water's edge.
During our visit, the native California flowers were in full bloom along the sidewalk across from Chase Center, showcasing the park's commitment to local plant communities.
This authentic approach to material reuse, combined with stepped terraces and immersive water access points, creates a vibrant public space that honors the evolving eastern waterfront's rich maritime past while serving the community's needs - from a peaceful place to sit down and enjoy a breeze to using the grills!
